Outdoor Christmas Lights On My Deck

This last weekend we were having a small Christmas party and it was time to start putting up the Christmas decorations and lights. Last year at the end of the season I purchased a few lighted figures and one was even using outdoor animated Christmas lights. There was a couple of reindeers and of course Santa Clauss. Santa was the animate light. Basically, he waived back in forth using a small motor.

I was going to install the figures in the front yard, but we still hadn’t moved our tent trailer for the season so you wouldn’t see much of the lights. I thought of moving them closer to the road but then I got the idea to put them on our deck. This way we can see the lights and they would be cool for the party.

You can’t tell from the picture but the upper part of Santa moves back and forth. I’m going to add some outdoor rope lights on the deck rails. I think some red LED rope lights will look very cool. Also, I’ve always wanted to use rope lights and we can’t because our house doesn’t have a fron veranda. Our old house did, but that is a different stories.

The one thing I need to do is find a better way to mount the lights on the deck. Right now it is a metal stand that is designed to be staked in the ground. I’m thinking I will probably tie-wrap them to the deck rail, but I would rather have them off the rail a bit. Gives it a bit more dimension.

If you have any cool pictures of Christmas lighting on your deck, please email them and I will share them with the other readers.
