Before You Buy an Irrigation System Timer Make Sure You Know the Available Features
There are a lot of different makes and models of irrigation timers on the market today. There are also a lot of different styles of timers with different features you may or may not need. Before spending money on a timer with features you don’t need, it's a good idea to review what a timer is and what are the available styles and features.
An irrigation system timer is the device that controls when your watering system turns on and off. For years I used a kitchen timer. When I started the water I set the timer. When the timer dinged, I move the sprinkler or turned off the tap. Our first drip irrigation system with a timer was great. It would turn the water on and off for 15 minutes each day.
I have now advanced the system to water our hanging baskets and plants to use a drip irrigation system with a battery powered timer. I have found my biggest problem with the electronic water timers was trying to figure out how I programmed the thing. After a long winter, who could remember how? I've had a total of three different timers over the years. The Orbit one was cheap to buy and very hard to program. The Hunter was not to bad it lasted until I can across a computer-controlled timer called PC Timer. I have used it for the last month and it works great. By far, one of the easier ones to program. I really like the programming screen with all the start times and run times in front of me at once. No more small display with the knobs and buttons to move between the different stations. I don't know about you but I like anything that works with my computer. The company is called Gwytech Systems they are from Windsor, ON.
